Growing up, I didn't initially envision myself entering the field of psychology. I was raised in a culture where mental health was heavily stigmatized, and it wasn’t until later in life—after witnessing and experiencing the challenges that come with mental health—that I discovered a deep passion for supporting others and working to break down those barriers, particularly within minority communities.
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and later immigrated to the United States. I spent most of my childhood in New Jersey before pursuing my undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University (We Are!). I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology in Spring of 2024 and shortly moved to Tampa to begin my graduate school journey. I am currently working toward my PsyD in Clinical Psychology at the Florida School of Professional Psychology at National Louis University.
My clinical interests center on personality disorders and trauma, as well as expanding access to culturally responsive care. I am also interested in conducting psychological assessments in Spanish to help provide equitable services for individuals who feel most comfortable expressing themselves in their native language.
Outside of academics and clinical work, I enjoy cooking, spending quality time with friends and family, and cuddling with my two cats! Staying active is also an important part of my life—I especially love yoga and barre, and I’ve recently begun working as a Pilates instructor, which has been both rewarding and fun.
Warm regards,
Val
